You might have had an informal job interview about working a few shifts at your local pub, or you might have filled in a form to work at the clothing store down town. But have you ever attended an interview where you’ve had to look the part, and be prepared beforehand? As a graduate attending your first job interview, this can be a scary process. The first thing to consider is the role. Your degree should hopefully make you qualified for it, but you also need to show the interviewer that you are passionate about the job in question. Take the time to research the company, and let your enthusiasm for the position shine through. By showing the interviewer that you have an interest in the company and understand the role, you will have a much greater chance of standing out and ultimately being successful.
Take some time to get organised beforehand. All the questions in the world won’t make up for you being 20 minutes late. Make sure you are aware of how long it will take you to reach the interview, how you will be expected to dress, and how to make a good first impression (tip: smiling helps).
